Kognitio positioned in leading industry analyst firm’s Magic Quadrant

CHICAGO, January 2, 2009 – Kognitio®, a leading global provider of business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing solutions, today announced that it has been positioned in Gartner Inc.’s latest “magic quadrant” of data warehouse database management systems (DBMS) vendors.

In its “Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems,” Gartner analysts evaluated 15 separate vendors of DBMS systems, including Kognitio. The report describes the “managed service warehouse” as an alternative delivery model, saying, “We expect the use of this model to increase in the next few years, especially for single business units or a specific data warehouse application. Further, we believe this model will develop into a software as a service (SaaS) model in the next few years for organizations in the small or midsize business category that lack the expertise and funds to support their own data warehouse.”

Kognitio officials said they believe that their Data Warehousing as a Service (DaaS) offering is in alignment with their interpretation of the Gartner report; Kognitio has predicted that more than half of its North American business will come from DaaS-based implementations by the end of 2009.

Kognitio’s WX2 purpose-built analytical database is at the heart of the company’s offering: now in its sixth generation, Kognitio WX2 is the most mature analytical database of its type on the market today, capable of helping mid-sized and larger enterprises alike gain unprecedented analytical access to, and insight from, massive amounts of data, thus allowing them to remain ahead of their competitors. More than twenty years of development enables Kognitio WX2 users to reliably gain greater benefits in less time; by enabling users to query, in detail, vast amounts of granular data in just seconds, tests have shown WX2 consistently obtains results several times faster than competing data warehouse appliances and up to 60 times faster than typical software-only databases.

Unlike other solutions available in the marketplace today, Kognitio gives its customers the widest range of options, having designed WX2 so that it can be installed in any of three methods: as software-only, with capacity-based licensing; as an appliance built on commodity hardware, or in a DaaS implementation.

“We are delighted that Gartner has recognized us; I believe this is due to our great progress and solid performance over the last year, not only in North America, but worldwide,” said John K. Thompson, Kognitio’s Chief Executive Officer of North American Operations. “Four dozen companies worldwide are currently evaluating WX2, considering implementation at their firms. These companies include market leaders in consumer electronics, consumer packaged goods, finance, bioinformatics, retailing and more. As they work with WX2, they understand the value it delivers. We expect further significant success this year, and look forward to increasing our market presence.”
