Users and developers of the Hadoop platform will be descending on San Jose, California, later this week for a two-day summit to hear about the latest innovations for the technology.

More than 2,700 people are set to attend the event, which takes place at the San Jose Convention Center on June 26th and 27th. Sponsorships have been sold out for several weeks, which hosts Hortonworks and Yahoo! siad demonstrates how much Hadoop has matured in the last few years.

As a result, it was noted that the platform is now viewed as a key component of the next generation of data analytics architecture. In particular, it was observed that excitement is building among corporate enterprises, partners and the open-source community for the upcoming general availability of Hadoop 2.0 and YARN.

Vice-president of marketing and business development Michael Hiskey will be explaining about how Hadoop can be used as part of a mature business intelligence (BI) platform to meet the growing data demands of businesses. This is taking place as part of the community showcase session and has been voted on by attendees, reflecting the real-world interests of the Hadoop community.

Chief innovation officer at Kognitio Paul Groom will also be explaining to attendees how they can free themselves from the ‘Wild West’ environment of today’s disruptive BI landscape and bring order to their operations.

These will be among more than 90 breakout sessions taking place over the two days of the events that will focus on topics such as technology insights, case studies and success stories, industry panels and cautionary tales.

Speakers from more than 50 organizations will be on hand, including major users of Hadoop such as LinkedIn, Paypal, Netflix and Twitter.

In addition to this, there will be a full complement of community meet-ups, including a pre-conference bike meet-up, Big Data Camps and other opportunities for the community to gather, interact and share insights and plans.

Keynote speakers at the Hadoop Summit include Merv Adrian, research vice-president at Gartner, who will be discussing what the future holds for Hadoop. Artist and educator Jer Thorpe will also be detailing how firms can make data more ‘human’, while senior fellow and vice-president of platforms at Yahoo! Bruno Fernandez-Ruiz will be giving a talk entitled Hadoop and Continuous Computing: Looking Beyond MapReduce.

The Hadoop Summit 2013 will be a great opportunity for developers, architects, administrators, data analysts, data scientists and vendors to network and learn more about how they can implement Hadoop and pre-registration has been extended until today (June 24th).
