Kognitio DSN configuration walkthorugh on Windows

You can set up a Data Source Name (DSN) to connect to Kognitio. Below are instructions on how to do this directly from Kognitio Console.

For setting up DSNs on other systems or manually see the ODBC page.

1. In Console hit the Connect to server icon: connect_icon.

2. Click the dotdotdot_icon icon.

It’s next to the Server drop-down list.

The Connect to server dialog box.

3. Select the User DSN tab and click Add.

The ODBC Data Source Administrator (64-bit) dialog box.

This isn’t a Kognitio dialog box. It’s part of Windows Control Panel.

In Windows, you can navigate to it anytime (even before you install Kognitio):

  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, click Administrative Tools.

  3. In Administrative Tools, click ODBC Data Sources (64-bit).

In Windows 10, you can hit the Start flag start_icon and type ODBC. Windows should show you the ODBC Data Sources Destop App as a choice.

4. Select the Kognitio WX2 driver.

5. Click Finish.

Now you need to supply:

  • Data Source Name: any name that will help you to remember the Kognitio instance you’re connecting to.

  • Description: optional, anything you want.

  • Server address: the IP address or domain name of either:

    • your Kognitio on Hadoop edge node(s).

    • your Kognitio on AWS node(s). This can be obtained from Management screen of Kognitio Launcher.

    • your Kognitio standalone node(s).

    • your containerized Kognitio.

Make sure the default port is set to 6550.

The IP address can include the port explicity like this: You can supply a list of IP addresses separated by semicolons like this:;

6. Click OK twice.

This returns you to the Connect to server dialog.

7. In the Server drop-down list, select the DSN you just created.

  • Make sure the User id is SYS.

  • Type the password for your Kognitio on Hadoop server.

Remember, the default password for any server is simply the server’s name.

If the connection fails, look in the Logs pane for diagnostic messgaes.

To display the Logs pane:

  1. On the View menu, click Panes.

  2. From the Panes list, select Logs.

Once you have successfully connected, Console displays the System pane.
