Looking for a Vultr Alternative? See Our Top 3

Published on September 9, 2022 by Kevin Graham

Vultr is a cloud hosting platform that offers cutting-edge, high-performing SSD cloud servers. They launched in 2014, and are the newest entrant of any of the competitors that we will discuss in this article.

Now, Vultr is a pretty good cloud infrastucture provider, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try other hosting platforms – to test out different solutions, get a better deal, or try out their new infrastructure, functionality, or tech support. Or maybe just out of curiosity, to see what else is out there.

I’ve chosen three Vultr alternatives that I think can stand alongside Vultr and that are worth trying out.

In this article, you’ll get to learn more about UpCloud, Linode, and DigitalOcean as Vultr alternatives and tell you more about their functionality, tech support, the data centers they offer, and also very importantly – their pricing.

All of the hosting platforms we cover in this article – Vultr, UpCloud, Linode, and DigitalOcean are available through WP Bolt.

UpCloud

UpCloud is a cloud hosting company that has one of the fastest cloud servers in the world, and also offers a 100% SLA uptime.

It has twelve data centers spread across Europe, North America, and Asia – three in the US (Chicago, New York, and San Jose), one in the UK (London), one in Poland (Warsaw), the Netherlands (Amsterdam), Spain (Madrid), Germany (Frankfurt), and two in Finland (both in Helsinki), as well as one in Singapore (Singapore), and one in Australia (Sydney).

All their cloud servers come with high-performing MaxIOPS technology as standard, for even faster speeds than standard SSD drives. They also include 24/7 direct access to their technical experts via email and live chat.

UpCloud launched in 2012, and are headquartered in Helsinki, with offices in London, Seattle and Singapore.

Linode

Linode is a US-based cloud web host that is aimed at developers. Voted “Easiest to use” for 2022, it offers good prices and high performance, cutting-edge hardware, various server options, and data centers.

Linode has 99.99% SLA uptime and 11 data centers – five located in North America (Toronto, Newark, Atlanta, Fremont, Dallas), two in Europe (Frankfurt and London), and four in Australasia (Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo).

Linode’s hosting is billed by the hour – so in the end you pay what you use. It’s easy to upgrade or downgrade plans, making it really flexible to switch.

You have the option to choose whether you want a dedicated or shared CPU, or the High Memory plans (they’re great for applications that require more memory), GPU-optimized plans, and bare metal plans. In addition, there are other services like load balancers, managed databases, S3-compatible object storage, and more. Really, there is plenty of options for whatever kind of thing you want to do, depending on your budget and the features you need.

Linode offers 24/7 tech support through phone, email, the Linode IRC channel, and support tickets.

DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean is another cloud hosting platform aimed at developers, small or medium-sized businesses, and startups. Similarly to Linode, it offers inexpensive high-performance services. It’s noted for its clean design and usability, offering a selection of Windows and Linux servers.

It boasts 99.99% SLA uptime for droplets and storage, and it has 14 data centers around the world. The servers allow for various configuration options – you can use 1 or 32 virtual CPUs, it’s up to you.

Lots of pricing options depending on how much you’re willing to spend and how much power and memory you need.

DigitalOcean offers a great combination of scalability, 24/7 customer support and great value pricing. Customers can easily focus on growing their business with the variety of IaaS and also fully managed PaaS such as managed databases, managed Kubernetes, and S3-compatible object storage. Their range of offerings covers basically all you need as a developer.

Conclusion

So, as we saw here, there are good alternatives to Vultr – you can’t go wrong whether you try out UpCloud, Linode, or DigitalOcean, or decide to stick with Vultr.

All of them provide you with plenty of choices for data centers and always-available tech support. But bear in mind – buying from either of these platforms will provide you only with basic server functionality, and if you go through WP Bolt, we’ll provide you with a fully managed and supported server on any of these four providers I’ve mentioned here.
