What images go into the persistent memory area (PMA)?

by markc » Mon Jan 20, 2014 4:31 pm

Version 8 has the concept of persistent memory areas (PMAs) for each RAM store which allow fast restarts without having to populate memory again from scratch.

What objects have to go in the PMA?

Any queryable object with a memory image. This would include:
  • table images
  • view images
  • ram only tables
Temporary tables created directly from SQL via CREATE TEMP TABLE or CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE can be allocated from any part of memory (PMA or non-PMA), but their contents will not persist on a restart with memory image reuse even if they were stored in PMA.

Temporary tables created by the query optimiser do not have to go in PMA, even if they are 'pinned' (i.e. TTs that cannot be streamed).
