wxadmin@ubuntu:/home/krissh/Desktop$ su - wxadmin
Password:
wxadmin wxadmin@ubuntu:~$ wxsubmit -s localhost sys

(c)Copyright Kognitio Ltd 1992-2012.

Password:
Unable to connect to server localhost

To redo the newsys step you should be able to run the wxadmin tool as the wxroot or root user (if doing as root you will have to do ". ~wxroot/.bashrc" to get your environment set up correctly), and newsys from there. From memory I think you choose option 7 at the first menu, and option 10 at the second, then answer questions about the SYS password and system id to progress.

If this fails, please tar up the files under /var/log/wx2, and attach them to this case along with the /var/log/messages file so we can investigate.

Regards,
Mark.

Thanks for the Kognitio log files. We need to review the output collected further, but a few points I noticed:

1) you are using 8.1.0rel131126 rather than the 7.2.1 version you indicated earlier.

2) when you run ". ~wxroot/.bashrc" that just sets some environment variables, so not seeing any output is expected behaviour.

3) /var/log/messages is a standard file that you need to be root to access. It is where the system logs lots of information such as details when nodes are rebooted, evidence of problems seen by the system, etc. Please verify that file exists and attach it to the case. Note that you need to be root to access the file.

Regards,
Mark.

It's possible that the firewall, selinux or apparmor services are running and blocking progress. Could you send through the status of those three services? The command to check the status will depend on the Linux version and what packages you have installed but the following may provide the necessary output:-

> iptables status
> apparmor_status
> sestatus

Send the output from the following command to see if the PMA files exist:-

ls -l /dev/shm/wx*

Try the newsys operation again by running the 'wxadmin' command line tool then chose options 7 -> 10 -> enter SYS password -> enter system_id -> enter

If the newsys fails to complete as before then you can collect some debug information by navigating to a directory with at least 2 GB of free space and then run the following command:-

wxdgtool -D -O .

This will take several minutes to complete and will produce an output file approximately 1GB in size which will allow for further investigation by the Kognitio. Ideally you would put this file in an S3 bucket and provide Kognitio with access.

Regards

Simon

Thanks for that output. So without making any configuration changes just yet it it would be useful if you could retry the newsys operation again by running the 'wxadmin' command line tool then chose options 7 -> 10 -> enter SYS password -> enter system_id -> enter

If the newsys fails to complete as before then whilst the system is still in that state you could send the output from the command

ls -l /dev/shm/wx*

Then collect some debug information by navigating to a directory with at least 2 GB of free space and then run the following command:-

wxdgtool -D -O .

This will take several minutes to complete and may produce an output file approximately 1GB in size which will allow for further investigation by Kognitio.

There is no need to run 'wxadmin setup' just run 'wxadmin' followed by options 7 and 10 in order to retry the newsys operation. I have copied below the screen output from a newsys that I ran on my system called 'wxsupp01' so that you can see what output to expect.

Krrish,

Thanks for the extra information.

Looking at the syslog output it appears you are running Ubuntu 12.04, or Precise Pangolin.

We have tried downloading and using ubuntu-12.04.3-server-amd64.iso with no problems. We have also tried a 32-bit Ubuntu instance which is not expected to work (Kognitio version 8 requires 64-bit Linux), and in that case we get the expected failure, although it is not the same as the output you provide.

From the history file generated from your second attempt we can see the commissioning successfully ran the initial "lock system" SQL command, then appeared to hang on the next SQL which is "new system". However, the information you dumped off showed no database processes running, and the uptime of the node was very low (apparently 214 seconds), so it looks like the node was restarted before you capture information.

Could you repeat the experiment, but this time capture information without restarting the nodes. If you could then attach that information, plus the tarred up /var/log/wx2 directory, and the /var/log/syslog file, we can investigate further.

Note that as mentioned before, the wxd file when dumping information might be quite large, in which case you won't be able to attach it (please attach the other information though). In this case, please put it somewhere we can access it, and give us access details - you can email helpdesk at kognitio dot com if you do not want to make those details public.

Regards,
Mark.
