Scripting new user creation

by dat789 » Thu Apr 17, 2014 11:24 am

Hi
Creating a new user in the console is rather... straight-forward. I sometimes wonder what happens on the back-end.

So far, I'm familiar with the likes of wxsubmit, wxprobe, wximport, wxexport, etc.
To create a new user name: JSMITH
Password: absee123
Security class: SEE_ME_THROUGH
Schema: JSMITH
GROUP: HRT_BLD, HRT_SEE, HRT_CU

How does one do the same at the command line?

One feature of Console is that you can see the queries it runs If you look at the Logs pane at the foot of the Console window (ensure View | Panes | Logs is ticked to be able to see this), then check the Actions tab after e.g. creating a user.

Console does not allow all those details to be set, but for your case it would show:

create user JSMITH password "absee123" sec_class SEE_ME_THROUGH schema JSMITH;

You would then have to do the group manipulation via Console, and again you'd see the SQL it used in the Actions tab.
