Seeking a technology to provide MDX interface to Hadoop data

by davindra » Wed Jun 11, 2014 1:03 pm

I am struggling to find a solution that ticks all the following boxes. I've been talking to a few of the usual big vendors then someone mentioned Kognitio.

1) 7TB of data
2) Frequently changing data ( new data arriving every minute and end-user posted adjustments )
3) Low-latency response of integrating newly-arriving data ( sub 5 secs )
4) MDX EXCEL integration. Ability to service MDX queries from EXCEL

IS this something Kognitio can provide ?

Thanks

Can Kognitio solve my problem

by davindra » Wed Jun 11, 2014 2:52 pm

I have been looking at several vendor products over the last couple of weeks with a view to find a solution to my specific problem:

1) I am moving my underlying data store to Hadoop
2) The data is changing once per minute and there are manually entered adjustments from end-users
3) The latency response to such changes is expected to be < 10 seconds.
4) I am sizing up a 7TB OLAP Cube at the moment
5) ( and this appears to be the killer feature ) My users are all EXCEL users and need to perfrorm analysis using EXCEL MDX. It MUST hav e an MDX query service.

Can someone tell me if Kognitio is the one that ticks all these boxes please.

You certainly can use KAP to analyse data that is stored in Hadoop, and we have customers using our MDX connector to then do analysis from within Excel.

To go into more detail on things like the latency requirements is likely to need a lot more information on the Hadoop platform you are looking at, the KAP platform you'd use at the moment to analyse the data, etc. All of that is likely to be better handled outside this public forum.
