How can I script commands using the wxadmin tool?

by markc » Mon Oct 06, 2014 1:39 pm

I have used the wxadmin tool interactively, but is it possible to script wxadmin commands so they can be run non-interactively?

You can script wxadmin commands like this:

wxadmin disks+list all

This is equivalent to selecting the disks menu in wxadmin, then selecting the list option, then providing 'all' as the argument. If you run a command which requires confirmation when run interactively, then add '-y' to your wxadmin command like this:

wxadmin -y <the options you are passing into wxadmin>

Note that one reason for using wxadmin for destructive commands, such as commissioning, is to prevent those commands being left in shell history, which can cause problems if people are going through history, particularly over a high-latency/low-bandwidth connection. So avoid running these commands in this way if at all possible.
