Giving a user privileges on all objects in a schema

by markc » Tue Feb 10, 2015 10:48 am

I am trying to give a new user FRED privileges over all objects in a schema JOE.

I've tried running the following as SYS, but that did not give them access to e.g. select from all the tables in JOE:

grant all on schema JOE to FRED

What do I need to do?

The command you've run grants all the schema level privileges to FRED. Those are CREATE VIEW, DROP SCHEMA, VIEW, CREATE EXTERNAL SCRIPT, and SET COMMENT. However, it does not grant table-level privileges on the objects in the FRED schema. You can read more about this in chapter 5 of the Kognitio Guide.

What you need to is grant aggregate table privileges for that schema, which is done like this:

grant all table all table privileges on schema JOE to FRED

The first "all table" indicates you are granting aggregate table privileges. The second "all table" specifies that you are talking about the ALL privilege at the table level (as opposed to e.g. just SELECT if you'd wanted FRED to only be able to select from all the tables in schema JOE).
