ODBC Connection Python Mac

by awilliams » Tue Jan 10, 2017 9:52 am

Trying to set up a connection on Python 2.7.12 running on Mac 10.12.2 using pyodbc module. Is there a how to kind? I have installed the latest ODBC drivers from http://www.kognitio.com/forums/latest_mac_odbc.zip and using the Mac console works fine. However I need a connection through Python yet I seem to be struggling to set up either through creating a DSN and/or passing a full connection string.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi

If you are you using an ODBC DSN manager such as unixODBC or iODBC this thread explains how to set up an ODBC connection using pyodbc on Linux that might give you some pointers.

I found some guides to installing unixODBC and pyodbc on Mac OS via Homebrew and pip.

You'll need to edit the odbc.ini files to point them at the right server but if you can also use iODBC which comes with an odbc manager to add them in a Windows-like GUI. The driver you'll need to use for your DSNs is the one you've linked.

Without unixodbc - https://gist.github.com/tommct/5749453
With unixodbc http://www.joecjr.com/2014/07/27/instal ... or-pyodbc/

Homebrew - http://brew.sh/
iODBC - http://www.iodbc.org/dataspace/doc/iodb ... meVisitors

Hope this starts you off in the right direction, good luck.
