How do I let a user modify queues?

by MikeAtkinson » Mon Jan 20, 2014 12:04 pm

I've been asked how to let users modify queues.

First you need to give the user privileges on the queue(s) in question. In Console as user SYS double-click on the user to bring up the user object view, then single click on the queue to be modify and drag and drop the "alter" or the "all" Queue privilege, and click on "Save Changes".

The users can now run queries to alter the queues, however they cannot see the "Queues" element of the system metadata tree in Console because they do not have the ability to list visible queues.

So for the user to be able to use Console to alter queues you you need to give the user privileges to enumerate the list of queues which is to allow selects on sys.ipe_queues.

In Console as user SYS double-click on the user to bring up the user object view, then single click on the sys.ipe_queues view and drag and drop the "select" Table privilege, and click on "Save Changes".

Alternatively the following two SQL statements do the same thing:

Code: Select all

grant all on queue MYQUEUE to <user>;
grant select on view SYS.IPE_QUEUES to <user>;
