Kognitio Console issues, advice, etc.
Console SQL editor font
by William » Thu Jul 31, 2014 2:15 pm
Hi,
It's a small thing but is there anyway to use fixed width fonts in the Console editor?
All other text editors I've used (eg Notepad, Notepad++) correctly deal with fixed width fonts like Lucida Console and Courier New so that full stops, commas, spaces etc take up the same width as any other character. This helps when trying to write readable SQL code.
Thanks,
Will

William,
Go to configuration, and choose SQL. Change the "Script Font" to "Courier New" and change the font size to 10.

Hi,
I've tried Courier New 10 but it doesn't solve my issue.
For example typing this on two lines highlights the different character widths:
a.b.d.e.f
123456789
Thanks,
Will

Courier New gives fixed with in Console SQL editor, but not in the config dialog Script Font example text for me.

Miriam Fixed gives fixed with in Console SQL editor and in the config dialog Script Font example text for me - but its not a nice font.
BatangChe gives fixed with in Console SQL editor and in the config dialog Script Font example text for me.
Bitstream Vera Sans Mono gives fixed with in Console SQL editor and in the config dialog Script Font example text for me.
Probably many more monospaced fonts, the font which looks nicest for you is a personal preference which is one reason why a monospaced font was not picked as the default.

Hi Mike,
Is this something that has been fixed in a newer version of Console?
I recently upgraded to 8.01.00-s140605 (32-bit) and Courier New and Lucida Console do not have fixed widths for me.
It seems to be a particular problem with periods, commas and brackets.
I'd post a screenshot but this doesn't seem to be possible.
The following text highlights the problem when pasted into my SQL editor:
A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A
A A A A A A A A A A A
A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A
A A A A A A A A A A A
A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A(A

You should have a PM with an image showing monospaced fonts being used.

Hi Mike,
Just wondering, was this something that was fixed in a newer version?
Do I need to upgrade?
Thanks,
Will

It should not do any harm to upgrade, there are always lots of bug fixes and enhancements in each Kognitio Console release. However, the last time I made a deliberate change to the fonts was June 2012, so I don't think an upgrade is going to help.
The latest Kognitio Console can be obtained from:
http://www.kognitio.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10
A list of changes is at:
http://www.kognitio.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24
We are a week or two away from another Kognitio Console release.
